How to Get to Hydra
For athletes who wish to come independently, please read the following possible options:
By Ferry (High-Speed)
High-speed catamarans depart daily from the port of Piraeus to Hydra. Several departures are scheduled throughout the day, depending on the season.
Travel time varies by vessel, ranging from 1 hour and 30 minutes to about 2 hours.

- By Car
Driving from Athens takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes via Attiki Odos.
If you start from Piraeus, take the Athens–Lamia National Highway and exit onto Attiki Odos toward Elefsina. Continue onto the Athens–Corinth National Highway.
After passing the Corinth Canal, take the exit toward Epidaurus and turn left at the end of the exit, where you will see signs pointing toward Hydra.
Continue driving for about 30 minutes until you reach the Epidaurus junction. Shortly before the junction you will see signs for Hydra, Poros and Spetses. At the junction, take a slight right turn and then immediately left under the bridge, following the sign for Hydra.
Follow the road, passing the junction for Epidaurus Beach, and watch for the Hydra signs. At that point take the uphill road slightly to the right toward Kranidi – Ermioni.
You will eventually reach the roundabout at the Kranidi plain, after passing the villages Koliaki, Tracheia and Fournoi, following the road signs.
At the roundabout take the third exit toward Ermioni – Hydra and continue toward Ermioni. When you reach the Ermioni junction, continue straight ahead. After about 500 meters, you will arrive at another roundabout. Take the second exit (straight) and you will reach the Thermisia roundabout.
Turn right there and, after passing Porto Hydra and several small settlements, you will arrive at Metochi.
- Metochi – Crossing to Hydra
Metochi (listed on Google Maps as Metochi Pier Hydra Lines Freedom Ferries) is a small port directly opposite Hydra. There is secure parking available if you wish to leave your car there and cross to Hydra.
Boats “FREEDOM III” and “FREEDOM IV” operate daily crossings, reaching Hydra in approximately 30 minutes.
