The final countdown for “Hydra’s Trail event 2019” has begun!
Once again, our island will feature prominently on the calendar of the year’s mountain racing events. Hydra, with its unique beauty and characteristic absence of vehicles, possesses a magnificent network of mountain trails which lead to the highest peaks of the island and offer breathtaking views of both the Saronic Gulf and the Aegean sea.
For the sixth consecutive year, high quality services will be available to the runners/participants and will be announced – as always – gradually, in the coming weeks.
Registration opens on Monday, January 14th 2019. Entries are again limited to one thousand (1000) and registration is exclusively online at www.hydrastrail.gr. As every year, a closing date for registration will not be announced since, traditionally, Hydra’s Trail Event is sold out!
There will again be five (5) running events, three (3) on Saturday and two (2) on Sunday and the athletes will again be entitled to take part in up to three (3) events with a single entry fee.
The races begin on Saturday, April 6th at noon with the – unique in Greece – Downhill Race. The athletes depart from the top of the mountain at an elevation of 500 meters and break the finish line at the port, having covered a distance of 3.3 downhill kilometers with individual chip timing. Next is the Juniors’ Mini Race for children up to twelve (12) years old and the five-kilometer (5 km) Run & Fun race which has been designed with the “city trail” concept in mind so that the participants can get to know some of the town’s quaint alleyways and hidden neighborhoods and admire the island’s unique architectural style.
That’s the end of the day’s competition events but the fun continues at the Pasta Party on Saturday night with food, drinks and much socializing by the sea under the sunset.
For Sunday, April 7th, the menu includes our main event, the Eros Mountain Trail, where the runners will cover a distance of 26.3 kilometers with a positive elevation variance of 1.4 km as well as the entry level, 13-kilometer Rock Race with a 600-meter positive elevation variance.
Like every year, our aspiration is to offer the participants the opportunity to get to know both the natural and cultural beauty of Hydra and to enjoy a competition weekend in one of the most beautiful places in Greece, which is why all the races have been designed to include not only mountain and coastal trails but also cobblestone segments through the town’s picturesque network of streets and alleyways.
We promise you that his unique event, at this ideal destination for mountain runners, already familiar to past participants, which will take place on Hydra at the weekend of 6 and 7 April 2019 will be even better than last year. In the absence of cars or any other kind of motorized vehicles, the trails will take the “front seat”
We welcome you all to come and spend a once-in-a-lifetime weekend full of sport, athletic spirit, discovery and good old fun!
